Healthy Awesome Burger

February 11, 2012

This is the best burger I have ever cooked and eaten!  It will fill you up without putting on the calories.  You won’t even need chips or fries when you eat this.  As it cooks, the aroma is the best!

The actual name of this burger, Meatloaf Burger, just didn’t do it justice, that’s why I changed the name (plus it just didn’t taste like meatloaf to me).  The recipe can be found in Cuisine at Home, Weeknight Menus.

2 slices of white bread, torn                 3 eggs, beaten

1 Tbsp.  unsalted butter                         1/2 cup diced onion

1 minced garlic clove                             1/4 cup minced, fresh parsley

1 tsp. Worcestershire sauce                1 tsp. kosher salt

1/2 tsp. black pepper                             1 lb. lean hamburger meat

Soak bread and eggs.  Saute onions and garlic in butter.  Let cool.  Add parsley, Worcestershire, salt and pepper to bread mixture.  Blend.  Combine bread mixture, onion mixture, and hamburger meat.  Form hamburger patties and *grill on both sides until done.

While burgers are grilling, make the Tomato Bacon Relish.

Cook 2 strips of bacon.  Remove.  Saute 1/2 c. chopped onion. Stir in 1/4 c. brown sugar, 1/4 c. mustard, 1/4 **ketchup, 1/2 c. diced tomatoes. Add bacon.

When burgers are done, remove from pan.  Add relish on top of burger.  Then enjoy the best tasting burger you’ll ever eat!  It’s even delicious without the bun, just ask my mom!

*I grilled these on a pan grill that my Aunt Shirlene and Uncle Mark got me for Christmas one year.

**I use Heinz.  To me, it’s the best!
