Mom’s Best Chili

April 11, 2016

“What are we having for lunch today?” If you keep the following ingredients on hand, you can easily answer, “Mom’s Best Chili” and your family will look forward to your meal.  It’s easy and affordable!  We must thank one of Kevin’s friends, Miss Brooks, for sharing one of her little secrets which made this chili a winner in our family.  Thank you, Ms. Brooks, for sharing about the magic of sausage.  This recipe was based upon what was available in the kitchen cabinet and refrigerator/freezer, adding a little bit of this, and a little bit of that to create a wonderful chili.

1 lb lean hamburger meat

1 lb Owen’s regular sausage

1 onion

2 cloves garlic, thinly sliced

3-4 Tbsp chili powder

1 1/2 Tbsp cumin

1 (14.5 oz) can diced tomatoes

1 (8 oz) can tomato sauce

16 oz. water

Cook hamburger meat, sausage, onion, and garlic until meats are well done.  Add chili powder and cumin.  Stir well.  Stir in tomatoes, tomato sauce, and water.  Cook on low 30 minutes.
